I’m Irish and, having recently returned here (not for very long), even I hate ireland !!!! So it’s quite conceiveable that God (if such a being even exists) would also hate it.
NOT however for the misinformed ‘facts’ the homophobic bible basher cites above, but for the extortionate prices, lack of opportunites, poor infrastrcuture, even worse cuisine and lack of anything to do (no wonder the drinking culture reigns). Anyone who thinks that Ireland is the land of quaint cottages, fairies and folklore needs to come and live here for any extended period.
As for the Catholic church….. it’s the downfall of Irish society and has given rise to generations of guilt-ridden, God fearing people who cannot think freely, much like the scripture-citing homophobe, who argues his/her point by quoting a book of dubious origin, since it was orginally not even written and tales passed by word of mouth. Although most Irish people today been raised as Catholic most are not fully practising. However, the Church still has its nose in state affairs resulting in lack of free or emergency contraception, no abortion in Ireland. Even the Dail (parliament) members say prayers before sessions! So you see there really is no sanctuary in this bog for the free thinker. Anyone with any creativity leaves Ireland, knowing this to be the case. Land of saints and scholars?! You must be joking. The land of rip of merchants and imbiciles. Our members of parliament are the worst ambassadors for our country – often ill educated with bad grammar and in their positions only because of blatant nepotism. We are a laughing stock, represented by glorified bog-trotters. Just look at the current revelations regarding Anglo Irish Bank and the encouragement of a welfare dependent state. Can you believe that an Irish person who is unemployed cannot get payments if they live at home but the government will pay their rent (and their social welfare) If they move out and rent accommodation , thereby incurring extra expense… AND at the cost of the taxpayer!!!!!! I was, up until my recent return to Ireland, rather proud to be Irish. Now I see the unfortunate reality that there is no pride in that. That’s why I hate Ireland. You got to remember. That Ireland is home of the leprechauns and Irish Spring Soap. This means a couple of things. The irish are self righteous tourists. I live in Florida and had the misfortune of going into an Irish pub one night when it was full of… you guessed it Irish tourists. I had to sit and listen to them explain how America was a backward country because we allow people to own handguns for 30 minutes. I finally told them that I own a handgun and they all started calling me Charlton Heston…. as if this was some really clever thing they had thought up. These people aren’t clever in the least. Why would they even go to an Irish pub on vacation? It makes me wonder.

Derek, ye we do tend to have highley opinionated gobs alright, particularily when we have the “aren’t we great” hat on. Must be worse for Irish people living in America for years having to listen to the Irish tourist in America or when you come home (assuming you are Irish) listening to how America is this that and the other, when they haven’t lived in the land for barely 5 minutes. Sure still, think of something pleasant the next time and laugh, to be sure to be sure. (By the way, NEVER NEVER NEVER EVER pay any heed to anyone or their conversation when there is drink involved. IT was never a point of conversation, it was a one way argument, you got hooked, drawn and sinkered on that one)

Its, naturally not easy to appreciate right now, but there are people in worse situations all over the world. Did our parents, grandparents quit in their lives when things were ****e or an endless life of disappointment? **** no. Lets all collectively grow a pair of balls and move those ****ers out of Dail Eireann, personally door step our next candidates for the Dail and hold them accountable for their actions and inactions. To draw clear minds and to collectively ask each other what do we want and how do we want it done.
